The Closing of the Navajo Generating Station Costs Northern Arizona Tribes Millions

November 14, 2019 will be a sad day in the history of the Navajo Nation and the communities surrounding the Navajo Generating Station (NGS). This coal-fired power plant has provided vital jobs to the Navajo Nation and surrounding communities for over 40 years along with energy to Phoenix, Las Vegas and elsewhere in the United States.

In the name of “climate change” President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and the Democratic Party have done everything in their power to decimate the coal industry and coal-fired power plants in favor of the legislation like The Green New Deal. As a result, many people will lose or have lost their jobs and their livelihoods.

With the closure of the NGS, the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Tribe stand to lose between $40-$50 million dollars per year.

Instead of working to save the NGS, Tom O’Halleran, along with the rest of the Democrat controlled congress, has placed the impeachment of President Trump as his top priority. He claims he is going to propose a bill to support the Native American Communities and displaced workers. Where is the bill, Tom?

When elected as your next congressman, I will (1) always support the economies of our Rural communities and Native American Tribes, including the use of our natural resources; (2) support tribal projects for the use, production and sale of the vast resources of coal at the Kayenta mine; and (3) propose real legislation that will support job training for the vast members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe members that are being displaced.
